While most Minnesotans living in the Twin Cities will often flock up to the North Shore, there are some unique, less crowded locales south of the Cities to visit. And closer too! Hidden Falls and Caron Falls can be found in Nerstrand Woods State Park and Caron Falls Regional Park respectively, with each park located almost right next to one another, connected by an easy to drive on dirt road -- maybe about a 5-6 minute drive from one to another.
This set of accessible waterfalls while maybe just 5-10 feet high, you can walk in the water just under each falls and get close enough to get some cool, immersive compositions. Or, you can throw some foreground features to help complement the waterfall in your photo. If visiting during the summer time make sure to bring some bug spray -- I guarantee you will get bit if you don't!
From the Nerstrand Woods park lot, the walk to Hidden Falls is about 8-10 minutes. To get to Caron Falls, the walk from the parking lot is about 10-12 minutes. To get to the Caron Falls area, you will need to pass by the covered picnic area and walk towards the woods where you will find an opening leading into the woods -- that is the trail to get to the waterfall.
